Recap of the Last Week 12-19-13
We are incredibly blessed to be where we are in life! God is so good!
D.J. and I were able to take a quick weekend trip (kid free!) to Minneapolis to watch his favorite team play the Vikings. The game wasn't very good... the Eagles actually LOST to the VIKINGS! These two words are usually not used in that order! We had a blast with his cousin and his wife, saw their new house, ate amazing Italian with homemade noodles!, relaxed, and most importantly spent time together reflecting on our last six years together.
Also this week I took the girls with a friend and we went to see Santa at the mall! Brynae and Aasha did great, Aaliyah however screamed bloody murder and clawed at me before I could get her to hand over her wish list letter. Santa was so understanding and we eventually got a picture of them. I'll see if I can figure out how to attach that. Until then, enjoy these collages! I figured out how to get it into a SLIDE SHOW!!!
PS- As you know, I am addicted to these collage sites, and they are the most wonderful thing ever!!! Most notably, www.picmonkey.com
Tis the Season 12-8-13
I can't believe it is December. It is December, we have snow and ice surrounding us, and our house is full of holiday cheer! We have been so busy lately that I haven't been able to update on our move.
We are officially in the house and awaiting a few more things to happen to sign the papers to the bank. We are paying on our loan rather than a mortgage at this point, so prayers would be gratefully appreciated that this all gets worked out before Christmas! We had a lot of help moving us in and magically had wonderful weather while doing it! Unfortunately my dad fell from the truck and has been dealing with many health issues since then. He is pretty spunky about it, and the girls love taking him on walks with his walker! He is still doing therapy daily and has gotten to the point where he does not use the walker around the house :o) That's huge! His leg is still very swollen but his wrist is healing nicely. With the help of other friends and family we had the truck unloaded in an afternoon, and D.J. and I worked our butts off and nearly every box is officially unpacked! Of course, I took a break so as to get the Christmas Tree and decorations set up. We did it later than ever this year (I believe on the 5th!) and it has really put a spring in the girls' steps. Brynae, every morning, comes downstairs and turns on the tree lights. A girl after my own heart :o)
D.J. had a wonderful birthday that we celebrated with family and had a nice mellow evening. The girls were excited to bake him cake and even made a second cake just for Auntie!
I will be updating daily about Present, our Elf, and try to get more pictures up for you to see our crazy kiddos... as if you don't see enough of them!

It's almost TIME! 11-13-13
It's true! It's happening! It's REAL! We are moving into our house on Friday! In two days! YES!!! We are so thrilled it cannot be put into words. This is our Dream House. There are still little things that could have been different or may be changed in the future, but that's what the future will hold :o)
We have had many ups and downs, many setbacks, arguments, mis-orders, and more problems. But it's going to happen! We are going to sign and the house will be ours!!! YAY! Everyone is ready. Not just me. Or my husband. Or my kids. When I say everybody I mean it! We have a few friends and family lined up to help us move, though we will see how it really turns out... it is hunting season after all! Here are a few pictures from my recent walk through. Keep your eyes peeled for the updated ones!
Thank you for your prayers and support during this process. As of Monday, November 17 we are accepting reservations and surprise visits at the Mitzel Inn :o)
I'm serious.
Come visit us.

More Frustrations…. 10-11-13
I am frustrated. I think that's the best way to put it. Things are going great, but I am just so frustrated as well!
Our kids are sick, then better yesterday, and then sick again today. I just pray they feel better and we can start our "usual" routines on Monday again. It has been one very long week for this momma. Yia-Yia too!
D.J. is still working all the time. He is working at Tesoro, still on the Fire Department out there, and of course working on our house. I think the stress is starting to get to him, as he has seen the chiropractor a few times in the past few days and he is keeping a close watch. I pray nothing serious comes of this and we don't relapse into the migraines and back aches like it was before all of this treament. We are extremely thankful for our friend Aaron who has been helping with the rock work at the house and has the perfect sense of humor and work diligence to work with D.J. Maybe they'll finish someday….
Our yard is constantly being changed. I think the word this morning is that we need to put in a big retaining wall. Yay. Just what I wanted to do. NOT. I asked for a flat yard, I was let to believe it would be that way, and yet… we don't know exacty what will happen. Prayers that our meeting with the landscaper yields ideas for us!

Where is Fall? 10-4-13
It happened. Again. I don't know why I am so caught off guard; this IS North Dakota after all! It's true, we didn't have a Fall this year. No Autumn. I feel like it's just a made-up scenario. One day sunny, the next we have flakes flying! Brynae cried when I told her we couldn't go outside because it was snowing, "I hate the snow." Sorry to break it to you dear, but we live in ND and this is how the weather is ALL the time. Actually this weekend marks the 8th anniversary since Dickinson got dumped on with 3 feet of snow. I remember that day like it was yesterday. My parents were visiting and I simply woke them up to say, "I don't think you can leave today. You may need to start shoveling..." Needless to say they didn't leave for four more days. This weekend we have a 40% chance of 12 + inches of snow. We do not have snow boots with us. We do not have snowpants. Our sled is in the storage truck with all of our warm gloves, socks, under clothes, hats, everything. The good news is that wonderful cuddly feeling you get when it snows. The comfort of knowing that you are safe and have somewhere warm to live with food to eat (although not much I may add; the grocery shopping was not a priority this week. Oops!!!) The pictures is what happened after just a few hours today-- after the pouring rain stopped. So that tells you how fast it is coming down!
In other news, our house is coming along great! The paint is in and my cabinets are starting to get installed! It is the best feeling ever being able to walk in and see the choices we picked out and how they all blend together! We still have roughly six weeks left, and because our builder is a perfectionist we don't think there will be any early moving-in. After this storm today I just pray that in six weeks we have a sunny day with NO snow, NO ice, and NO wind!!!! That would be a miracle wound't it?

Where has the time gone? 8-28-13
Wow, it has been a whopping three years since we had our first-born baby girl! She has been such a blessing to everyone around her and we are so grateful for the wonderful gift that God gave us! The two other girls just had a birthday as well... we have survived two years with twins! Woohoo! We actually made a toast on their birthday congratulating ourselves! I know it sounds funny, but what a whirlwind it has been. Their personalities are all shining through and of course all three are different and unreadable. The only thing that we can definitely agree on is this: Aasha has her mommy's athletic skills, whereas Brynae and Aaliyah most definitely take after their daddy!
It has been such a long time since I've been able to post, and part of that is because we were out of town for two weeks! We had an amazing trip to California and everywhere in between! I will post a few pictures, however many will be uploaded to Snapfish. I don't think this website will let me list all 347 I took :)
We also have HUGE house news! Our builders are pushing hard to stay on track, however don't think we will be in early at all. The great news is that things are moving along so fast right now that D.J. and I have been extremely excited every time we get a phone call or text from the builders. All of the drywall is up in the house and the taping and texture was starting today! Here are a few pictures of that as well!

Tomorrow's the big day! 7-28-13
Tomorrow morning, July 29th, we will sign the house over to the new family that will be living there! We had a fantastic run, 5111. I am still really excited about the new chapter in our lives and trying not to be upset about leaving.
We are completely settled into three bedrooms at my in-laws house and will do our best through the next 3-4 months to get along with everyone. How long can seven Mitzels live under one roof peacefully? Maybe if three of them are toddlers it makes it easier...
Yesterday we drove up to the new house with the kids and did another tour. We had the pleasure of showing it off to my sister-in-law as well, so we were able to capture a GREAT family picture in the midst of the chaos. I will attach them at the end!
I also wanted to remind you that we will be visiting Bishop for a few days in August. I am hosting a Thirty-One Party out there and as always will be hoping to catch up with everyone! If you are out there please let us know! This is the first time the kids will be out there, and the first time we have been out there in three years! Time is due!
Pack-Man 7-20-13
My husband is like Pac-Man in a way. Every room he walks into, he starts picking things up, filling boxes, making piles, searching for the Tape Gun... you know. Just like the video game seeks out "food" he has been seeking out every item in our house. Which is fine. We do need to move and really don't have that much time left (we are down to only 4 days!) but it is getting a little crazy over here!
With a lot of help from our parents for gathering boxes, DJ's company for supplying brand new computers to part of the refinery (which in turn left us with about 25 amazing boxes!), friends and neighbors offering to help with the kids, and take-out meals, life has been moving along fairly well! Our house seemed to be going fast, but it's so deceiving because once it is up it is stuck in that position for such a long time. We have taken the girls up there a few times and have even driven by nearly every day (to try to keep them excited about it), which makes me thankful that it is so close to our current house. What makes me not thankful? Having to think of everything we may need in the next 4 months. I have packing boxes of clothes for the girls in-case they grow in and out of their current sizes. I have packed every medication on the shelf just in-case something comes of the weather changes and possible snow. I have had to pack jackets, shoes, sandals, dresses, baby dolls... things that they MAY need while we are camping out with Grandma & Grandpa, but who knows if they really will need them? DJ is actually on his 4th trip over to their house with a carload to unload into our bedrooms ("home") so we have things. Did you know I have about 15 bags of chocolate chips that were in my freezer? They are coming with us too! I don't dare lock them in a NON temperature controlled semi that will be sitting in the sun for 3-4 months. I may be baking a lot... In the midst of all of this house talk I completely forgot to mention that we had company from DJ's two older sisters and their kids at the end of June. We celebrated the 4th of July with fireworks and gave the kids a great experience while they were together. There were seven of them all together, ranging in ages from 12-6 weeks. Most of them (5) were under the age of three!!! We have been extremely blessed the last month and hope that the next month holds just as many happy moments. |
It's Official!!! 6-20-13
It's true! It's officially official! Our new house has finally started and it is going great so far! The girls and us have been able to witness first hand how the tractors move and dig (even getting to sit up in them!), the cement trucks pouring the foundation walls for the basement and garage, and all of the wonderful DIRT needed for this to happen!
June 5th was the start of this new adventure. "Start" meaning the dirt moving and tractors on the lot. We signed the papers in May and were delayed due to rain (see earlier posts), and of course the lot had to be surveyed, but the 5th is when it became real! We are now 15 days in and have basement walls (cement), will be getting a basement floor poured soon, and then backfill with start so that the framing can begin!!! D.J. is amazing and is doing a lot of work himself, such as researching different cities and companies to get flooring from, optional siding techniques, insulation and HVAC, wall textures, where to get discounted fixtures, etc. He has such patience and talent that we will hopefully save some money due to all of his hard work!
In other Mitzel news, we have been keeping busy with parks, our little swimming pool, and every activity we can find around us! Frequent trips to the Dollar Tree are at the top of the kids' list, as this is where they get to choose snacks for the week. We have been making new friends and the girls ask every morning who they get to play with next! It is awesome to see them growing and developing little relationships with others around them. I'm not sure who enjoys it more!

The "R" Word... RAIN 5-31-13
It has been raining every day! Well, I take that back. It has not been raining every day- it rains for a few days, then we have an absolutely gorgeous day and they kids play outside for hours, and the next day it rains again. The cycle can make anyone upset, but to a mom with toddlers, it is downright maddening! Trying to explain why they can only go outside sometimes is frustrating to say the least :o)
Today we did a Mini-Lesson on the letter R. To add a little more to it, we added raindrops to our papers using paint! Surprisingly the girls did great with the paint!!

Mini Lesson: Healthy Habits 5-21-13
The rumors are true... 5-16-13THANK YOU to everyone who helped with the Arthritis Walk this year!!! We had ab AMAZING turn out and raised over $24,000! We enjoyed a beautiful day and had many walkers of all ages- over 200 infact! This year, our 6th year involved (and 7th for our city) was the largest year and it is only going to get bigger!!! Many of us walked for Dawn, a dear friend, Arthritis Committee Chair, and large reason we did so well. Unfortunately we lost her on April 1st. Let's just say her memory was definitely alive and tears were flowing as feet were pounding pavement! It was beautiful!
Ok, now... it really hasn't been too long since I've updated, but there are rumors. And they're true. We sold our house and are moving!!! Don't get too upset; we are staying in Bismarck. Our new lot is actually only a couple miles from where we are now. Down one hill and up another! With the interest rates low, the children not enrolled in school yet, and a great opportunity that presented itself, we took the bait. My wonderful husband sold our house on his own in a matter of five days! The couple that bought it are amazing and very easy to work with and we are thrilled they love the house as much as we do. Because Appraisals are out 6-8 weeks as it is, we will not be closing until the end of July which is such a blessing. Unfortunately our new house, which has not even broken ground, will not be finished until October. Luckily I have great in-laws who have agreed to let 5 Mitzels move in with them in the mean time! My parents on the other hand offered us the dog run! Can you feel the love? That's what I thought!... I have been doing more Mini Lessons with the girls as well. So far we have tackled A & G. I am waiting to do B because Brynae knows that is "her name" and i want to do something extra fun! Most of the booklets I make but I am always looking for new ideas. Share if you have any!!! I will keep you posted with my progress! Oh, and potty training was put on hold again. We have been frequenting parks, malls, and stores. When we are finally home and I have built up enough anger and patience, we shall try again... |

Now what? 4-30-13
It's true! I feel at a loss with my kiddos. We were spoiled for three straight days- outside every waking second. Then... BAM! North Dakota reared it's ugly face again and here we are, stuck inside. No Yia-Yia to help so we can run errands, no Daddy to play since he is at work, no Auntie to keep track of the chaos. It's true... we started Mini Lessons!
Today we started with "A is for..." We will not be doing the alphabet in order, but I figured this was a fun way to use up some time and focus on structured learning! We even all colored the same pages the same colors (until the markers started dying)! The girls did awesome and I am excited and hopeful that I can continue teaching them the way I would other kiddos!
Oh yes, and we started potty training today too.... all I can say is PRAY FOR ME...

Kick-Off Event! 4-13-13
It's true! Our Arthritis Walk Kick-Off Event is on Monday, April 15th! That is only two days away!!! Please come out and join us if you are able. We will be holding the event at Taco Del Mar in Bismarck, where 20% of profit goes straight to our foundation! There will be amazing door prizes as well as awesome food and people!
On April 1st we lost a young lady, only 36 years old, to her fight with arthritis and complications. She was the most driven fighter out of all of us, and I have vowed to make this our best walk yet, in honor of her! She was amazing and I have never met someone with such a positive attitude in my entire life. I will greatly miss her, as she was such an inspiration and had a great affect on my life the past two years.
Remember, people with arthritis are young, old, moms, grandpas, students, teachers, policemen, etc. You cannot always tell if someone has this disease which is what we are fighting to prevent!!!
I appreciate all of the prayers, monetary donations, and physical support from those walking with me on May 4th!

Toddler x 3 2-28-13
Seriously... it has happened. We are officially parents of three toddlers! I know some of you probably knew that. But, I didn't!!! Our girls are growing so quickly and getting such little minds of their own! Aasha is starting to put together little sentences, "Thank you, Brynae!" Both little girls can tell you yes or no, follow multiple steps and directions, pick out their own shoes and coats from a pile; the list goes on and on! Brynae, wow. She is the best big sister anyone would ask for! She is often asking for the girls to sit on her lap, get kisses, play in the kitchen, taking the girls shopping and pushing them in their own carts. Little Miss Independant is on our hands, and boy is it ever different than before! Aaliyah just came up to D.J. the other night, said, "Potty" and then as I took her in, sat her on the potty--chair, she totally peed! The chair started signing music, she got her candy, and I was in utter disbelief.
The next step is potty training x 3....I'll take all the help I can get :o)

Busy! 2-20-13
Where has the time gone the past month? Wow! We had a wonderful trip to Mexico with Theron and his girlfriend Christina. We stayed in Cancun for five nights and six days, while the kids stayed with Yia-Yia and Grandpa, and Grandma and Grandpa. We got a little too much sun, ate our weight in guacamole, and spent our days playing in the Caribbean Sea and many pools.
In other news, the Arthritis Walk is coming up and we are prepping for different fundraisers! I will be selling Herberger's Coupons for $5, all money of which goes to our team. We are also accepting donations and team participants!
100 Days! 1-24-13
We have 100 days until the 2013 Arthritis Walk! I am very excited about this!!! All five of us will be able to walk this year, with the twins actually having the chance to walk if they so chose! Here is a picture from last year :o) It makes my heart smile!
Grandpa Fred 1-7-13
We got that phone call. The one where you answer and you're happy, and then one sentence comes through the phone line and you are stunned. Grandpa Fred died on Saturday. I can't believe it. We just saw him! We were just with him! Eating dinner, and visiting at Noah's wedding, and chasing the girls around as he tried to follow who was who.
We all knew it was coming. He was a man who lived every second up until the day he died. And he died quickly without pain. Amen for that. We are thankful beyond words that we knew him and that he played such a big role in our lives. Shock is the correct word for all of this. Are we happy he is gone? Of course not! Are we blessed he went without suffering? Absolutely.
Brynae asked what was wrong. D.J. told her Grandpa Fred had died. She smiled. We told her she should be sad, and she said, "No. I am not sad. I am happy." We asked if she was happy because he was in Heaven with Jesus. She responded by jumping and saying, "Yes! Grandpa Fred is with Jesus today!" Oh, through the eyes of such a young innocent child, how she sees the beauty in such sadness.
Today we remember, but we dance, as we know there is a party in Heaven. Grandpa Fred is leading the way, probably still trying to get in his last smoke. We love him and will always remember, but he is gone on to his next chapter. I pray for his family, friends, and everyone who was touched by his amazing smile and generous heart. Most of all, D.J. and I will always keep him in our hearts as our Grandpa Fred. The one that took us in when we were grandpa-less in life :o)

2013 is upon us! 1-3-13
That's right! 2013 is upon us and we are prepared to make this the best year yet! D.J. and I aren't big "resolution makers" but we have decided to make one... to become better parents and better husband and wife! I don't know if we can do it ;o) *wink wink*.
We have been blessed this past week with family helping watch the kids so we we could go out and celebrate. We went on three dates in a week! It was definitely the right way to start out our new year!
This year we wish you all happiness, peace, love, patience, laughter, and memories!

Colorado 4-1-1 12-22-12
Mommy & Nae before the wedding!
Miracles DO happen! It is still 2012 and we took a Family Vacation!
We were blessed with a trip to Colorado for Noah's wedding, in which Brynae (and I) was the flower girl. The wedding was absolutely beautiful and we are excited to have Shirene as part of our extended family now! We visited with Kelsie, Ken, Penny, and Vera and her boyfriend Zach, and for our 5 year anniversary (12-15) we made it to a wonderful dinner. Five years without seeing someone is just too long! We had a great time to say the least.
We were able to see D.J.'s sister Mandy and her family for a few days, enjoying brunch with my Aunt Mary-Helen and Uncle Eric who made the trek to meet with us, and then his oldest sister Melody and her family for nearly a week! It was a great time.
We also spent an evening with my dad's cousins Steve & Glenda and enjoyed a rather awkward (sick children should not be taken anywhere!) but delicious dinner. They sent us home with gifts for the girls and the most amazing Apple Pie I have ever eaten! The new ornaments now adorn our tree and we have yet another group to visit when in the Colorado state. Thursday we were able to take Uncle Howard out for an ice cream dessert and though he was a little crabby that he needed to take his insulin, we enjoyed our time with him and Brynae was excited to see him... and eat ice cream!
The trip was long but wonderful. Our children were sicker than sick and we have AMAZING family to help and put up with them!
Below are a few pictures from the trip, however I will also post them on Snapfish. If you need an invite, just let me know!

Our New Project 12-1-12
As if we didn't have enough on our plates, D.J. and I decided to start the girls on their own tradition of having an Elf on the Shelf! Last year for Christmas our adorable nephew bought the Elf for our little ladies, and though they're still young we decided to give it a try. The naming process was quite hilarious, as D.J. and I threw out names for everything we could think of... Christmas: Christy, Candy, Jingle... Names we liked: Annie... Words Brynae knew: Snowman, Sucker... and finally it was this. Our little two year old girl put her fingers to her lips, tapped a few times, and declared : "I think she likes her name to be Present!" and so you have it. Present the Elf joined our family yesterday and hopefully will be around for a few years to come!
I have put up another page so you can follow where she goes and what she gets into while waiting for the girls to wake up every morning after her trip from the North Pole...

Thanksgiving 11-22-12
We have been blessed beyond measure in the past year, and as I sit here with two sleeping babies, and one at Grandma's house, I realize how rare the occasions are that I can actually hear myself thinking. It is silent!
As a family of five we are extremely thankful for first and foremost, D.J.'s amazing job and the opportunities it gives us to travel, lets me stay home, and offers us amazing insurance to help with all of our sicknesses and diseases (JRA). I am thankful for HEALTHY kids and a wonderful, warm house to live in. I am also thankful for all of YOU, for your prayers, love, guidance, and laughter!
May you all be blessed with a wonderful day, filled with peace and reflection, and of course, mapping out your game-plan for Black Friday shopping :o)

One year anniversary! 11-13-12
I am so blessed to have spent the last year as part of the Thirty-One team! Our lives have been forever changed by the amazing opportunities that were offered by this company and I have been so happy to share it with others around me! At a time when I needed it most-- the bills were overflowing from the hospital, the twins were just getting home, Brynae was needing attention, D.J. was working hard as always, and I was going crazy being home nonstop. Every mother knows the true love you feel for your children. Every mother also knows the break she needs after spending too much time with her children! I have received many free gifts for me and my family, shared the gift of God's love with others, built many new relationships with some wonderful women, and then there is always the cash! I would like to thank you all for your support and encouragement. I hope to take Thirty-One through the next year and more!
Happy Halloween! 10-31-12
Happy Halloween! It is our first Halloween as a family of five that will include three costumes, three candy buckets, and three trick-or-treaters!
Actually, this morning we already hit up CenturyLink and visited Grandma at work, and boy was I exhausted after that trip! Well, all of the kids were! They all slept the whole way home, quick ate lunch, then passed out for nap time :o) DJ sure will have fun taking them tonight! I cannot believe how much candy we already have! Needless to say, the children coming to our house will be leaving with more candy than I have ever handed out before!
A few weeks ago we went to the Pumpkin Patch so here are a few pictures for you! I know everyone has been waiting and there they are! I'll post more on Facebook and Snapfish and try to send them out asap.
DJ and I had a fantastic time in Chicago and the girls did wonderfully being left here with Grandma & Yia-Yia.
Sorry this is so scattered! I am exhausted, I am enjoying a frappacino, and have already had my candy quota for the day! Eeeeeeeeee!

First time for everything.... 10-23-12
There's a first time for everything, and tomorrow will be another First for D.J. and I! We are heading to Chicago for three days, while our little ones stay home with Grandma & Yia-Yia! I am very excited, don't get me wrong. Not only will I have some much needed one-on-one time with my husband, but we have a new "nephew" who was born on the 8th and is impatiently waiting to meet us... or maybe we are impatiently awaiting him. I get to see my best cousin who we haven't seen since April and found out about little George (Walt, as DJ refers to him), and can finally meet her HUSBAND who has been around for quite sometime... obviously if they're married now.. someone's still gotta make sure he is ok for her!
On the other hand, this is a HUGE First for us. We have left the kids at Delores' overnight once as a group of three, and once as Brynae alone. I am starting to worry and have irrational thoughts run through my mind... what if they don't sleep? What if they get too much juie before bed? What if they won't eat anything while we're gone? What if we don't make it home? What if Brynae starts potty training and we miss it? (That'd really be ok, have at it Delores!) What if, what if, what if. I know, don't waste my time worrying. I'm a mom... all I do is worry. About something. All the time!
We'd really appreciate your prayers for not only the kids as they stay home, or as us as we travel through train, plane, and automobile, but as our parents tackle the chose of three little ones for a full time job this week! Thank you in advance for your help and support!!!

Happy Wife = Happy Life 10-16-12
All of our children are happy and healthy again! We are completely off of all medications including the breathing treatments! Praise the Lord! We are sleeping again, and actually last night all three children slept through the night. I woke up once around 3am to go to the bathroom, and then slept sound until 8:15am! I am the happiest wife and mom on the planet :o) Thank you for your help, prayers, and support!
Asthma? 10-6-12
As many of you know from following my Facebook posts, we have got quite the sickness on our hands. Miss Aaliyah Grace has been extremely sick since Wednesday night (almost took her to ER at 2am Thursday! Scary.) and when I took her into the clinic on Thursday we were directed straight to the doctors room and she was in with us before we even sat down. That was the good part. The bad part came nearly three hours later when we were finally released after a chest x-ray, 3 rounds of Albuterol treatment, a steroids shot, nasal swabs, and numerous tests. With the release came the, "She really is borderline... I should admit her to the hospital. Are you ok taking her home with you? She is so sick but I know you want to get home. Here, have a list of 5 prescriptions and see your doctor on Monday."
Is it Monday yet?
The past two nights D.J. has slept downstairs while taking charge of Brynae's monitor, while I have been in bed with Aaliyah trying to take care of her. Thursday night we got a maximum of 4.5 hours of sleep. Friday night she did pretty well and she got a solid 8 hours. Both nights Aaliyah & I both cried (and prayed) ourselves to sleep.
Asthma is tricky-- they won't diagnose her until, well, I don't know when! Already last winter we were prescribed our very own nebulizer, and the doctor said there are four types of asthma. But to tell us she has it--- nobody will. She is too young. I don't know what a diagnosis will do for me, maybe give me more realization I need to research. Maybe give me ideas on how to get my child to SLEEP when she's been on non-stop steroids for days and days. Maybe it will teach me how to handle MYSELF during times like this. It has already opened my eyes to the power of God and what He can do to help in situations we feel helpless, and bless me with the energy to function. I am so thankful for that, We are also extremely thankful that Aasha, Brynae, and our families all handle "hectic" well.
Aasha is on some of the treatments as well and she has been handling it so well. The nurse told me Aaliyah's sleep problems and constant crying are most likely from the Prednisolone, so we jump for joy at the news that Aasha doesn't need to be put on it as well. I believe some of these problems (most, actually) are because of kiddos were preemies. Though we have been on quite the wild ride with them, we couldn't, and wouldn't have done it any other way. In their 13 months we have endured:
Thank you to those of you who have taken our beautifully understanding Brynae off of our hands to show her some fun (Janet, Delores, Mom, and others) and those of you who have answered numerous unending questions! Most of all, thank you for the constant prayers!

Not already! 9-16-12
It has happened. Miss Aaliyah Grace had her first breathing treatment tonight. If this is a peek at the future, it's going to be one long Winter. or Fall. Is it still technically Summer? Oh boy... we're in for it. Originally thought to be allergies, she has turned into a squeaky toy. Let's keep fingers crossed, that maybe it was just a fluke thing... a Summer Cold, if you will ;o)
The Middle Already! 9-13-12
Wow! It is the middle of September already. Okay, I am two days early. Finally... early for something! First of all, let me say that this wonderful picture was taken two nights ago of our daring children. Thank you Auntie Melody for the lovely jammies! I'm not sure how much longer the three of them will fit in Daddy's Chair... eek! I am also not sure how much longer they'll have matching jammies. If Auntie Melody or Mommy has anything to do with it, it will be for many years to come :o)
Things here have been chugging right along. Excuse my references... Brynae has a new addiction to Chuggington. If you know nothing about this, I envy you. Chuggington, a show about trains, is now ranked up there with Mickey in our house. So, as I said, we chug right along! I understand most of my posts refer to us chugging along, but hey... it's better than not, right?
School started a few weeks ago and I have yet to be in a classroom. I am signed up and available to sub, but thankfully I have the most amazing husband ever and I am taking it slow and relaxed currently. I am home with the girls and when she is available my mom comes up to hang out. I am not sure if or how much I will sub this year, but fingers are crossed some good things will come our way and we know God's Plan is in action.
Brynae loves to "go shopping" so most days we drive down to the refinery to visit D.J. and she loves to sit on the benches and count the tank trucks. It is cheaper to drive there than constantly take her to a store! Although most trips we end up driving through McCafe to get some delicious drinks. Those things sure are amazing! They're cheap, not too caffeinated, and delicious! It's very bad for our bank account. And most of all our diet. I justify it like this: I need energy to play with the kids, and D.J. needs energy to stay awake at work. May not be the best justification, but it works! There is even a punch card I was just given, so how could I not take advantage of the buy 5 get 1 free opportunity? :o)
Aasha & Aaliyah are growing like weeds! Aasha has been walking since the beginning of September. She walks everywhere. EVERYWHERE. She never crawls and only sometimes likes to be carried. She is very independent when it comes to movement. Aaliyah on the other hand, likes to crawl ONLY if the walker is not nearby. She loves to run with the walker, and she can walk, she just chooses to crawl. She puts her little head down and charges. It's amazing how fast she can get from point A to point B.
I currently see two filthy babies and a yelling toddler on the back deck. Patty is covered in dirt and Brynae has been using her as a bat... poor doll needs a break! Aasha is chasing Aaliyah around with the barbeque brush and Aaliyah is beating on the door. Guess it's time for this busy momma to roll!

Another Year is Over! 8-29-12
The picture on the left is of the girls' "Picture Party" we had with a friend of mine. They did great and I hope to share more pictures of the girls soon!
It is August 29th... the first day after our Birthday Madness! All of our gifts are opened, the cake is gone, the toys are put away, the clothes are in the laundry room, and we can finally breathe again! The girls had an AMAZING birthday party which we celebrated with a lot of friends and family. Mickey & Minnie were a hit and the fun foods were gone instantly! I have never had such a close call on the food before at a party! I guess kids are good for demolishing whatever you set out for them :o)
Recently D.J. and I have been going through a lot of ups and downs with job positions. He was able to get a pre-interview for a position at the Refinery for an Environmental Engineer and we are praying he gets a chance at the job. It would possibly be less pay, but a job in which he could use his smarts. I am hoping the best outcome works in our favor! On my side, I have still been looking for jobs, however taking a position for a classroom aid is out of the question, and we are trying to figure out if I need to start my Master's or not. I really don't want to, as I am not a good "online learner" and don't feel the need to do more than required before I even get the position, but we are hearing mixed stories so figured we should start looking into things.
Brynae's birthday was a BLAST and she loves every gift and card she receieved. Thank you all for your love throughout the past two years!!!

The Twins are ONE! 8-22-12
Happy birthday to our little blessings, Aasha Brookelyn & Aaliyah Grace!!!

Thank you for being part of our journey the past 365 days!!! Your prayers, support, gifts, and encouragement have helped tremendously!

What's Done is Done 8-1-12
I did it. I finally got up the nerves and irritation to call the school and request an answer of what's going on with my interview. After talking with the rude secretary and being told, "Well they gave it to someone else!" I said bye and hung up feeling... even more mad! Not because I didn't get the job but because they never called, or e-mailed, or mailed me a notice! What happened to professionalism? Or pure simple, common courtesy?
So there we have it... no job. I know I mentioned before that when I was called for the interview I studied and did my best, but ultimately left it in God's hands, knowing He would steer us in the right direction.
I know that God's timing is the best timing and so even though I didn't get this job offer, there are other places I am needed. I plan to spend the next year home with my girls, running errands, taking care of the house, and taking the girls to doctors appointments, therapy, etc.
Thank you for all of your support and prayers!!! <3

Unprepared! 7-25-12
As most of you know I had an interview last week for a teaching position at a small school outside Bismarck. I honestly feel I did pretty well during the interview and left feeling pretty confident, still unsure what I wanted the outcome to be.
On one hand, if I got the job, I GOT THE JOB! However that means daycare, putting my mom under stress, figuring out new vacations and doctors appointments for the kids, plus the sheer fact I would be working full time suddenly. On the other hand, if I got the job, I GOT THE JOB! I have always dreamed of being a teacher and would LOVE to be in the setting the offered-- 10 students in the Fall! No, it's not my ideal grade, but who knows... maybe I would learn to love 4th grade and be amazed at what God would bring my way!
Unfortunately I still haven't heard and I am now finding myself upset and flustered while trying to "guess" on if that means i am hired or not. Apparently I wanted this job more than I thought! D.J. says I shouldn't expect an answer til next week, though I swear they said it'd be the beginning of this week. We will just keep praying for an answer, whatever it may be, and know that I did my best and God's plans may be different than our own!

Baby's First Outing 6-22-12
It's true! The twins went to Hobby Lobby today... and miraculously enough, it was Aaliyah's second time out (Walmart once before) but Aasha's first time out to a store! The girls had so much to look at and were very excited about sitting in the carts. Brynae pushed them all over the store and she listened very well. Though we were plenty nervous, we definitely made it through without any unexpected purchases (ie: broken items) and only caught Brynae eating one plastic grape, yelling, "Nummy!"
In other news we have been extremely busy with Tesoro doing a mini-turnaround, meaning D.J. has been working 12 hour days. He has also been put on over-time meaning he has not had a day off for about two weeks. We are definitely missing him here at home, especially with this new phase Brynae has hit- where she constantly needs Mommy or Daddy.
The twins are walking along furniture and behind their push toys!!! They're really on the move- watch out world! Brynae is talking up a storm and likes to pick out her clothes and dress herself these days. It's definitely a lesson in patience for D.J. and I!

Happy Mother's Day!!! 5-13-12
Here's hoping you mom's out there have a fantastic Mother's Day! The girls & D.J. took me out to dinner yesterday, gave me a shower radio, and then I got to enjoy a FREE Cherry Berry dessert with Brynae and my husband. Woot woot!
Thank you for making me the best mom I can be!

Here is just a portion of our team! We had 14 walkers today with the Knockout Legends! Thank you for all of the support as well, through donations, walkers, and kind words, we made a HUGE difference in the lives of those with arthritis! It was a beautiful day and we didn't have any problems... no broken strollers, no broken bones, babies stayed happy, and we all made it the entire 5K!!! Woot woot!
I feel like it's Square One 4-7-12
I have been meaning to update for some time now, and am finally sitting down to do it. Things with the kids are moving along and they have been relatively healthy- though currently all three are exhibiting fevers and the common cold. Hopefully we can stay away from the clinic/doctor's offices through this one. We can't afford to be in there all the time!
As any of you know, my arthritis has been giving me problems since my pregnancy with the twins. Fortunately I was able to be induced and still keep the babies healthy, although hopes of my pain leaving with the hormones was not the case. I am now back on Methotrexate along with my Enbrel. I have been on this medication before, a long long time ago. I am a little apprehensive, as this might be a life-long drug and there is a long list of side-effects to watch for. Luckily I am doing pretty good with it, but it has only been four weeks. I would definitely like some prayer as I am getting extremely frustrating, feel my strength diminishing, and am starting to get a bad attitude along with the pain. I do feel like we are back at Square One, but I know we have made it so far from first being diagnosed that it is silly to think that way. I will be getting blood drawn every 6-8 weeks to check a number of things, #1 being the status and levels in my liver. Because of this I am not allowed to drink alcohol, though a little bit every now and then is a nice treat :o)
Also, I would really like you to join or donate to my team, this year more than ever! I am walking on May 5th in the Arthritis Walk in Bismarck. The link is www.awbismarck.kintera.org and my team is the Knockout Legends. Thank you!

It's a miracle! 3-7-12
It's a miracle we are functioning at all in our house! We received sad news when I took in the twins for their SIX MONTH CHECK UP (can you believe it?)... RSV... again! What are the chances? Apparently pretty high. Brynae was able to get her shots but was put on an antibiotic, and the twins were unable to get their shots and were assigned breathing treatments (Albuterol) and antibiotics. Not only have we been struggling with RSV, they've all got sinus infections too. Thankfully I made it through unscathed this time, though D.J. woke up with a scratchy throat yesterday and has had sneezing and loss of appetite and energy. I really hope it doesn't turn into anything more; I really won't make it if he is sick too!
The little ladies did great at their NICU Follow-Up Therapy Session. Aasha passed with flying colors although they want to see her again in six months. Aaliyah, who was extremely sick on that day, didn't do a whole lot of anything, so we need to take her back in just two months. Thankfully the girls were able to see her sucking strength (speech), proning effects and rolling over(physical), and grasping toys(occupational). They did give us some things to watch for and work on, but we got such great news I haven't looked at the sheets yet! The girls' "corrected age" is 5 1/2 weeks prior to how old they really are... so even though they are 6 months old they are measuring them against 4 1/2 month stats, etc. Being preemies sure does put a kink in things. lol. They're ahead of where they should be in some areas and right on track in others. We are so thankful that they're growing so well, even with all of these sicknesses.
Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we are still on pins-and-needles about the possible strike at Tesoro and I am still only working a few times a month. My Thirty-One "business" is going great and I absolutely love it, though it sure does keep us busy! We think of everyone often and really hope you are all having an enjoyable "winter" wherever you are!!!

Baptism 2-21-12
On Sunday we baptized the twins, and what a wonderful serive it was. Aasha and Aaliyah were perfect, and Brynae loved seeing us all up on the "stage" in front of her! Below I attached some pictures from the wonderful event.
D.J. and I are very excited to have Anthony & Megan, as well as Theron and Deanna all join in upbringing our girls in the Christian faith. It was a wonderful weekend with everyone here celebrating!

Life Changes 1-30-12
It was eight years ago that D.J. and I started dating. It is amazing to think that it has been that long- eight years of ups and downs! I am so lucky to have turned that amazing dating relationship into a marriage, and in turn a family. With Brynae, Aasha, and Aaliyah come many challenges, but we still try to make time for each other one-on-one... when possible!
Thankfully the girls are all getting better and they are no longer having to use the breathing machine and we are able to sleep through the night again! D.J. and I are both on antibiotics however, fighting an ear infection and sinus infection. Does it ever end?
Thank you for the prayers for our family. I now have a new request. We have been going through a LOT of hoops trying to set up the twins' baptism, and we are kind of at a stand-still, and our tempers are getting in the way of making any decisions. Please keep us in your prayers as we make these decisions and plans. Thank you!

Sickies... 1-20-12
We have now used up roughly one third of our FSA for the year, as we have now been in the doctors office way too many times this week! I had to take in the twins this morning again as they both have been having problems breathing, and Aaliyah was almost admitted to the hospital. Luckily she responded to the Albuterol (steroid) treatment and they sent us homw with strict instructions to call if there are any concerns or questions over the weekend. Aasha is doing better, but still not good. They have both been removed from their formula for the weekend and are restricted to only Pedialyte. Aasha just took her first bottle and loved it! She drank all 4 ounces with no problems! Woohoo, my baby is drinking again :o)
I will definitely keep you posted, and thank you for the prayers. Brynae is on the up swing, though I feel as though I keep getting worse. D.J. and I have been running on nearly no sleep and it's quite the blessing in disguise that Delores had knee surgery this week, so he was able to be home. Unfortunately much of his time has been focused on us rather than Delores. She seems to be doing well though!

Oh my goodness! 1-15-12
Oops, I did it again! I can't believe that so much time has gone by. We are talking a lot of time here! I am so sorry! Most of you know what's going on in life, but I know some of you don't have Facebook, or don't know how to work it correctly ifyou do have it ;O)
This morning Brynae was diagnosed with RSV. It has thrown our whole world into an uproar, as we are frantically searching for ways to keep her away from the twins so that they don't catch it. Even with their Bronchiolitis and brush with RSV earlier, I wasn't this worried. Obviously my brain has gone through some ups and downs and is now starting to realize the importance of diagnoses and medication! She has an ear infection as well... it's a result of the RSV though also a complication in that she won't get over the RSV as quickly. Two fold...
The twins are doing great other than having to be kept away from their main source of entertainment in their big sister. Aaliyah has been rolling over since January 4th, however she goes through spurts of wanting to roll nonstop, and never wanting to do it again! Aasha has yet to roll over and is extremely stubborn. Brynae likes to help roll them, though if she's not coached it looks more like she's plowing their faces into the carpet. They are starting to giggle and love to talk! Cooing is still happening, though they like to hear themselves more often than not, so they "yell" at each other.
We are keeping busy and definitely don't have a lot of time to communicate with each other. Luckily D.J. has started a new rotation at work so though it isn't as easy as M-F, he does get an extra day off a week most of the time, which is definitely nice! I am subbing at one school specifically, and go in whenever they need me. Otherwise I stay home with the kiddos and try to keep the house from falling down ;O)

December already... 12-2-11
Where has the time gone? We have been so busy with our three angels that life has gone by... quickly! Aasha and Aaliyah have what could be RSV, and Brynae and I have been dealing with a cold, but D.J. is healthy and holding the world together! I will keep you updated with Aaliyah's status, as all we know for sure is that both twins have Bronchiolitis.
Brynae absolutely *loves* to bake and help in the kitchen! She has been speaking a LOT lately, and I wanted to share a few of her favorite words with you:
~Sounds that a dog, lion, Santa, and monkey make
~Mama, Dada, no, baba (bottle/sippy), baby, hi, buh-bye, bubba (bubbles), wa-wa (water), juice, cheese, please, nose, eye, "where is it?", "what is it?", yay, grandpa, yia-yia, grandma
~Points to nose, eyes, mouth, toes, belly button

Survival of the Fittest! 11-10-11
There is some great news to share with you all! Aaliyah Grace is now 10 pounds! Aasha Brookelyn is right behind her at a whopping 9 pounds, 14 ounces. We are so lucky to have such thriving girls! Our big girl Brynae Nastia is weighing in at roughly 26 pounds-- oh yes, she is quite the stud!
In other great news, the twins are within a few days of getting off of their monitors! We should have been monitor-free today, but we had a few alarms over the weekend. Hopefully by Monday I'll be able to return them to the hospital and we'll be a 'normal family' finally! Well, as normal as any family with three babies born 359 days apart can be! :o)
D.J. has been home sick all week and it has been extremely hard. He is experiencing another of his Vertigo-Episodes and when we went in to the doctor the other day, he had no news for us and basically told us "Good Luck." D.J. is scheduled for therapy tomorrow, and hopefully that helps. I know he likes to be home in the instance he gets to see his girls, but he hates is because he is feeling so awful and has watched basically every movie on earth!
I am barely surviving being a stay-at-home mom, but I think it will be easier once Brynae gets back on her schedule. I don't know what the hold-up was, but her schedule has been out-the-window for the past week or so. In the morning she comes into bed with us, and we wake up with all five of us in the same room. It's quite a blessing at the same time it's a pain in the butt! She is quite the little drama queen now days and although she still doesn't cry very much when she actually gets hurt (bonking her head, tripped, face plant, etc.) she will fake cry and stick out her lower lip to get your attention. Also, she gets very sad when she thinks she is hurt, and no matter where her owie is, if you ask if she wants you to kiss it and make it better, she will hold out her hand and have you kiss it. Suddenly, all is well :o)
Life is so sweet!
